Honey Sesame Chicken
We all love Fridays, and why not? We don't have to think about the next day, can snuggle up with family or friends, watch a movie we have been waiting long to see, or binge on Netflix. Our stomachs grumble for something good, and we reach for the phone to order from our favorite takeaway. I agree that takeout can be a total lifesaver on those nights when you come back home wearied after a long day of work, but it can end up making a dent in your wallet and health.
So the next time, when you're craving Chinese food, ditch the takeaway and try making this Honey Sesame Chicken. This is one of my favorite Chicken recipes, and I can never get tired of eating this.
If you are a big fan of Asian Cuisine, here are some other recipes that you might like: If you are more of a healthy person, you can bake the chicken pieces, instead of deep-frying them. Line a large baking tray with parchment paper and arrange coated chicken on it. Then, bake for 10-12 minutes at 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
The sauce can be made ahead of time and refrigerated until you are ready to use it. Serve this chicken immediately(as the crispiness won't last for a long time) over a bowl of steamed rice.
If you make this recipe, I would love to know how it turned out! Please let me know by leaving a comment below.
Ingredients:
- 1.5 lbs boneless chicken breasts cut into 1-inch pieces
- 2 eggs beaten
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- salt and pepper to taste
- oil for frying
- 1 teaspoon minced fresh garlic
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/3 cup soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 1/3 cup water
- 2 tablespoons sliced green onions
Instructions:
- We will prepare the sauce first. Combine the honey, soy sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, water and 2 teaspoons of cornstarch in a bowl and set aside.
- In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, salt, and pepper.
- In another bowl stir the flour and 1/2 cup of cornstarch together.
- Dip each piece of chicken into the egg mixture, then into the flour mixture. Repeat the process with all of the chicken.
- Add the cooking oil to a large skillet and heat it over medium flame. When the oil is fully heated, gently drop in the battered chicken pieces, one by one, making sure they spread out to prevent sticking together. Continue to fry until the color changes to golden brown. Dish them out and drain on paper towels.
- Heat a teaspoon of oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook for a few seconds. Add the honey sauce mixture and cook until it thickens.
- Add the crispy chicken into the pan and toss to coat with the sauce.
- Serve it with a sprinkling of green onion and sesame seeds over a bed of hot rice.
