Chocolate Walnut Oatmeal

Oats always have had the reputation of being tasteless and boring. But I must confess that I am a big lover of oats. I can have oats for breakfast almost every day without complaining. And why not? Oats are healthy and nutritious, at the same time they are so versatile that you can have it in different ways without getting sick of it. On the other hand, my husband is not so fond of oats, and that is one of the reasons I keep on looking for new and different ways of making oats.

Chocolate for breakfast, can anyone say no to that? We all love chocolate. Chocolate is pure bliss. It represents the perfect reward after a long, tiring day. But however alluring it may seem to us, we cannot ignore the negative effects excess sugar can have on our health. Keeping this in mind, I made a healthy change in this recipe as I used cocoa powder instead of chocolate. This Chocolate Walnut Oatmeal is a creamy, chocolatey breakfast but without all the sugar and saturated fats, we'd get from actually adding chocolate to it.

This recipe was a massive hit with my husband and I am sure you and your kids will also fall in love with oats after having this yummilicious bowl❤

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup Rolled Oats
  • 1/2 cup milk of your choice
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1 Tablespoon Cocoa Powder (too much of it can make the oatmeal bitter)
  • Honey or Maple Syrup as desired (you can use any other sweetener of your choice)
  • Chopped Walnuts
  • Dried Coconut Flakes
  • Blueberries(optional for garnishing)

Instructions:
  1. Combine the oats, milk, and water in a small saucepan and turn heat to medium.
  2. Add the cocoa powder.
  3. Bring to a boil. Then, turn heat down to low/medium and continually stir for around 3-5 minutes as the oatmeal cooks and thickens. (Make sure that it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan)
  4. Once oatmeal is at the desired consistency, remove from heat.
  5. Top it with chopped walnuts, coconut flakes.
  6. Drizzle some honey and your chocolate oatmeal is ready!
